Barnard Village, a key SCAD housing facility, struggles with underused spaces, poor maintenance, weak wayfinding, and a lack of identity - diminishing the student experience. This project addresses these gaps with research-led design to improve navigation, community, and livability.
Problem
Limited communal areas, poor signage, and neglected spaces reduce engagement and weaken students’ sense of belonging at Barnard Village.
Solution
An intuitive wayfinding system and revitalized communal spaces enhance navigation, activate underused areas, and embed SCAD’s identity, creating a more connected, vibrant student environment.
