Barnard Village - SCAD Accommodation

Barnard Village stands as a pivotal college accommodation catering to the diverse student population of Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Within its confines, we confront multifaceted challenges that collectively hinder the holistic student experience. Notably, these encompass the stark absence of communal spaces, the limited scope for interactive and immersive encounters, and persisting difficulties in wayfinding and navigation throughout the premise.

In response to the unique needs of SCAD students in Barnard Village, we've crafted an intuitive wayfinding system. Through research and strategic design, our solution not only simplifies navigation but also enhances the overall lifestyle, fostering an easy-going and seamless environment for students.

  • Limited Community Space: There is a noticeable absence of designated areas that promote social interaction and community engagement.

  • Underutilized Land: Several grassy patches and vacant plots within the residential area are left unused, presenting untapped potential for development and improvement.

  • Neglected Maintenance: The community hall feels abandoned and uninviting, with bare walls and amenities like the pool table in disrepair. The overall space feels lifeless and uncared for.

  • Inadequate Signage and Navigation: Upon entering, the lack of clear directional signs causes confusion. Certain paths are single-lane but experience traffic from both directions, exacerbating congestion and disarray.

  • Lack of Identity: Barnard Village lacks a clear SCAD identity, feeling monotonous and devoid of character, making it difficult to distinguish or connect with the space.
